Baseball Recap: Covenant Day Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Charlotte Christian

Covenant Day faced Charlotte Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Lions took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-3 on Tuesday.

Grant Gardner was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Covenant Day saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Duncan, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

This is the second loss in a row for Covenant Day and nudges their season record down to 18-6. As for Charlotte Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-5 record this season.
