Basketball Recap: Steven Webb's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Danville over Greencastle

Danville was the 73-31 winner over Greencastle when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Danville Warriors fell to the Greencastle Tiger Cubs 67-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (57), the Warriors still had to take the loss.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Steven Webb, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Those 18 points gave Webb a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Tricker, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards.

Even though they lost, Danville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matches.

Greencastle got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sam Gooch out in front who went 6 for 10 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Trevin Long, who went 7 of 14 en route to 16 points.

Danville has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-8 record this season. As for Greencastle, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Tri-West Hendricks the next time they take the court. Danville will head out to face Tri-West Hendricks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Greencastle will host them at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st.
