Softball Recap: Hazel Park Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Hazel Park barely beat Redford Union the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 15-0 shutout on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won 14 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Kathryn Chappell (2026) made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, La'Onna Otis (2027) and Lillian Griffiths (2027) did most of the damage at the plate: Otis (2027) went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs, while Griffiths (2027) went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave Otis (2027) a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Katie Miller (2027), who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and three runs.

Hazel Park's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 14-15. As for Redford Union, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-20-1 record this season.

As of now, neither Hazel Park nor Redford Union have any future games scheduled.
