Softball Game Preview: Heide Trask Titans vs. East Columbus Gators

For the second straight game, Heide Trask will face off against East Columbus. The Titans will be playing at home against the Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Heide Trask 3, East Columbus 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Heide Trask's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when East Columbus hitters got past them. The Titans wound up with the same score they had in their last game (10-0), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The contest marked the first time this season in which they were not able to get on the board.

For East Columbus' part, Heide Trask's batters probably weren't too happy with Gracie Coyle, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (she gave up six walks). Coyle has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Skylah Collins was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Aleigh Godwin was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

East Columbus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in nine consecutive games.

East Columbus is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Heide Trask, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Both Heide Trask and East Columbus just can't seem to miss. The Titans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. However, it's not like East Columbus struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.9 hits.
