Volleyball Recap: Thomas A. Edison Finds Playoff Glory Versus MAST Charter II

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Thomas A. Edison had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the MAST Charter II Voyagers, sneaking past 3-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Owls.

Thomas A. Edison was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The final score came out to 25-20, 23-25, 22-25, 25-7, 15-7.

Thomas A. Edison was led to victory by Rodrigo Alvarez and Jeremy Dejesus-Perez. Alvarez had 13 digs, three aces, and two blocks, while Dejesus-Perez had 21 digs and eight aces. With that strong performance, Dejesus-Perez is now averaging an impressive 10.3 digs per game.

They weren't the only good server: Thomas A. Edison was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in five consecutive contests.

Despite the defeat, MAST Charter II saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Abbos Dosmatov had 15 digs and three aces. Those 15 digs set a new season-high mark for Dosmatov.

Thomas A. Edison now has a winning record of 11-10-1. As for MAST Charter II, their loss ended a 15-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-2.

Thomas A. Edison wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 defeat against Northeast on the 19th. MAST Charter II does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
