Softball Recap: Benton Central's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Benton Central came into Tuesday's contest having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Covington Trojans on Tuesday, sneaking past 7-6. This was payback for the Bison, who suffered a 4-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Reagan Dowell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Madison Minniear, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Izzy Adams, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Benton Central's victory bumped their record up to 6-15. As for Covington, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Benton Central will venture away from home to challenge Harrison at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Covington, they will face off against South Vermillion at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season.
