Softball Recap: Mabel-Canton Takes a Loss

Mabel-Canton easily dispatched Spring Grove on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Cougars fell just short of the Hayfield Vikings by a score of 5-3 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 13-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2022.

Tylar Wenthold spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Mabel-Canton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hailee Eiken, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Mabel-Canton now has a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Mabel-Canton is taking a road trip to take on Fillmore Central/Lanesboro at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Hayfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
