Baseball Game Preview: Gig Harbor Tides vs. Port Angeles Roughriders

The Gig Harbor Tides will venture away from home to face off against the Port Angeles Roughriders at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Gig Harbor is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Gig Harbor is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Lakes on Wednesday. Considering the Tides have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Nathan Cheek looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hunter Payne, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Daniel Porras was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-2.

Gig Harbor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Port Angeles posted their closest win since May 11, 2024 on Wednesday. They skirted past North Kitsap 5-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Roughriders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Gig Harbor pushed their record up to 15-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Port Angeles, their record is now 3-7-2.

Gig Harbor skirted past Port Angeles 6-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tides since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
