Softball Game Preview: Tahquitz Titans vs. Heritage Patriots

The Tahquitz Titans will venture away from home to square off against the Heritage Patriots at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.

Tahquitz blew San Jacinto out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday San Jacinto got their revenge. The Titans fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Titans have suffered since March 18th.

Lillian Phelps spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Reyna Garcia made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Brown, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Heritage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of JW North.

Kenya Ponce was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Natalia York was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Heritage's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Tahquitz, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.

Tahquitz might still be hurting after the 27-0 defeat they got from Heritage in their previous matchup back in April of 2021. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
