Baseball Recap: Grosse Pointe South Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Grosse Pointe South waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against the Pioneer Pioneers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Blue Devils have posted since April 9th.

Grosse Pointe South got a great performance from Griffin Szatkiewski as he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. What's more, Szatkiewski posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

At the plate, Drew Hess was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ben Kocik, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Grosse Pointe South pushed their record up to 20-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Pioneer, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10.

Coming up, Grosse Pointe South will welcome Adams at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
