Baseball Game Preview: Mayfield Wildcats vs. Avon Eagles

The Mayfield Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Avon Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Things were looking good for Mayfield after they put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of South by a score of 3-2. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mayfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Galatis, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Those hits were Galatis' first of the season. Ethan Claflin was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Avon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Olmsted Falls. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly three runs.

Avon also got a good showing from Blake Elder, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

At the plate, Colten Fitch was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ian Cain, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Mayfield now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Avon, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
