Baseball Game Preview: Western Alamance Warriors vs. Northern Guilford Nighthawks

The Western Alamance Warriors will square off against the Northern Guilford Nighthawks at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Western Alamance has given up an average of 6.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Western Alamance saw some tournament action on Tuesday. They came up short against Southeast Guilford, falling 13-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Warriors in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Northern Guilford posted their closest win since March 7th on Tuesday. They came out on top against Dudley by a score of 5-4 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Yancey Burleson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, Northern Guilford saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Hinnant, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Nathanael Lorczak also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Northern Guilford is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Western Alamance, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.

Western Alamance came up short against Northern Guilford in their previous matchup back in June of 2021, falling 5-0. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
