Basketball Recap: Lucas Gorman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead New Covenant over the Covenant

New Covenant fought the good fight in their overtime game against The Covenant on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of The Covenant Eagles. The Gryphons were up 22-8 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

New Covenant lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Lucas Gorman, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 22 points. Gorman continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Isenhour, who went 6 for 14 en route to 16 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for New Covenant and nudges their season record down to 15-8. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 45.8% in those games and 28.7% outside of them. As for The Covenant, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-10 record this season.

Looking ahead, New Covenant will challenge Carlisle at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for The Covenant, they will face off against Roanoke Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Roanoke Catholic's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 17 matches.
