Preview: Spurger Pirates vs. Chester Yellowjackets
After two games on the road, Spurger is heading back home. They will take on the Chester Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Spurger is ranked 1398th, while Chester is ranked 1397th).
Spurger suffered their biggest loss yet this season two weeks ago. They were beaten by Brookeland 58-25.
Chester posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They put the hurt on Burkeville with a sharp 34-11 win. The victory was just what Chester needed coming off of a 54-22 loss in their prior game.
Chester's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sydney Brock, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and seven steals. Brock is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyli Handley, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
Spurger has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Chester, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-13.
Spurger beat Chester 40-29 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Does Spurger have another victory up their sleeve, or will Chester turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
