Basketball Recap: Aaron Reyes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Norwalk over Downey

Norwalk lost against Downey on January 7th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Norwalk Lancers fell 56-49 to the Downey Vikings. The Lancers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Several Lancers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aaron Reyes, who went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on his way to 18 points. The dominant performance gave Reyes a new career-high in points. Diego Morales was another key player, going 6 for 7 en route to 14 points and six boards.

Downey had a senior duo take command as Tyler Harris posted 18 points and eight rebounds and Frank Ibarra had 11 points and four steals. Harris' evening made it 20 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Topete, who scored seven points.

Norwalk's loss dropped their record down to 15-9. As for Downey, they pushed their record up to 16-9 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.

Norwalk will welcome Bellflower at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Norwalk is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.2 points per game this season. As for Downey, they are taking a road trip to face off against Firebaugh at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
