League recap: Cienega extends winning streak with victory over Sahuaro

Cienega added to the longest winning streak in II Section II this week by beating Sahuaro, 29-19. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Nogales took down Desert View 44-13 last week, the largest margin of any game. Max Verdugo threw for 260 yards during the win.

The Cougars' dynamic duo of Laramie Brown and Cole Sterns proved to be unstoppable against Cienega, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brown threw for 191 yards and 1 touchdown and Sterns had 148 yards receiving. Shyyrod Holton helped Sahuaro's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 30 yards.

Rafael Adames provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Buena defeated Sunnyside. He completed 16 passes for 201 yards and also ran for 85 yards. Adames' favorite target this week was Ben Sims, who caught 7 passes for 138 yards.

6-foot-2 quarterback Adames of the Colts is the league leader in passing yards this season with 2,768. He has also thrown 26 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jason Luna. The Nogales star has 59 catches for 1,069 yards.

So far this year, Adriell Alvarado has thrown for 1,811 yards with 16 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

Daniel Bonn has rushed for 976 yards on 155 carries so far this year.

Buena's Sims needs only 84 receiving yards against Mesquite to crack 1,000 for the season. He has recorded 43 catches for 916 yards this year.

Ryan Scherling's team and the Blue Devils played the most contested game in the league this week, with Ryan Scherling's team eventually emerging with a 24-23 victory. Adames ran for 85 yards in the win.
