Basketball Recap: Pope John Paul II Snags 14th Victory in Last 15 Games

Pope John Paul II won the last time they faced Cane Ridge and things went their way on Saturday too. The Pope John Paul II Knights strolled past the Cane Ridge Ravens with points to spare, taking the game 75-60. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while the Ravens are ranked 86th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pope John Paul II got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jarron Talley out in front who went 8 for 17 on his way to 20 points. Talley is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Kamden Days was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten boards.

Jaiden Pugh and Jamari Hardyway certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Pugh went 8 of 20 en route to 20 points and five rebounds, while Hardyway went 7 for 12 on his way to 19 points and eight boards. Those 19 points gave Hardyway a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jalen Fails, who posted five points.

Pope John Paul II has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-2 record this season. As for Cane Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pope John Paul II will take on Montgomery Bell Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pope John Paul II will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Cane Ridge, they will square off against Hillsboro at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cane Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.1 points per game this season.
