Volleyball Recap: Desert Pines Comes Up Short

Desert Pines lost against Western back in March, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Jaguars fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2.

Desert Pines wouldn't go down easily and took Western into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 12-25, 15-11.

Hostin Espinosa Martinez paced Desert Pines' offense, picking up 14 kills. Espinosa Martinez got some help from Jose Garcia and his 22 assists. Finally, Jayden Wade-Rosas kept Desert Pines' defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

Desert Pines has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Western, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

Coming up, Desert Pines will challenge Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Western, they have already played their next contest, a 3-0 loss against Boulder City on the 21st.
