Performance Foods on The Go

Pack your day with foods that will keep you performing at your peak.

Regardless of what sport you play, it is important to nourish your body with the right foods. Take into consideration my experience as a multisport athlete and see if the types of food that I prepare fit into your program.

Most everybody loves the peanut butter and jelly sandwich for its easy preparation and nutritional value. Through my years as a fitness professional I’ve learned to take the “PB and J” to the next level. Now I present to you the “Banana Almond Butter Sandwich”.

Almonds hold key nutrients that are vital for performance (and overall health) such as omega-3 fatty acids, fiber and protein. You can now buy “Almond Butter” along side your peanut butter and other nut butters at most local supermarkets.

Bananas are full of potassium and great if you are training for a long day of practice or competition. Potassium, a key electrolyte for muscle function, is lost through sweat during exercise and needs to be replaced as soon as possible to avoid fatigue and cramping.

Combining these two foods will give you the sustainable energy you desire. Spread them on your favorite whole wheat or whole grain bread or tortilla and you’ve made a nutritional masterpiece.

See this food prepared this week on “The MaxPreps Kitchen”. If you have any recipes that you feel pack a punch for performance please comment on this blog.
