The Springstead Eagles will face off against the Hernando Leopards at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Springstead sitting on five straight victories and Hernando on six.
Springstead had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Weeki Wachee on Friday. The Eagles never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Alivia Miller made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Madison Mayon looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single hit in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Springstead got a massive performance out of Kaylana Lyons, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits Lyons has posted since back in February. ElleAnn Cephus also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Springstead always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .833. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hernando got the win against Central on Friday by a conclusive 17-1. The result was nothing new for the Leopards, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
JULIANA JETER looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
At the plate, KENDERLYN HART was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of LILY JERNIGAN, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Springstead's record is now 10-1. As for Hernando, their record now sits at 7-2.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Springstead has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .470. However, it's not like Hernando struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Springstead got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in February against Hernando by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
