Preview: Columbia Wildcats vs. Cape Hatteras Hurricanes

Two dominant players in Jayden Sawyer and Griffin Couch are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Columbia Wildcats will play host again and welcome the Cape Hatteras Hurricanes, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Columbia has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 257 points over their last four contests.

Last Friday, Columbia strolled past Hobgood Charter with points to spare, taking the game 68-53.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Columbia to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ariyeh Spencer, who scored 16 points along with nine assists and seven steals. That's the first time this season that Spencer posted eight or more assists. Sawyer was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Cape Hatteras, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-41 loss to Ocracoke on Tuesday. Cape Hatteras has struggled against Ocracoke recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Columbia is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season. As for Cape Hatteras, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Columbia didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Cape Hatteras when the teams last played back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 45-40 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Cape Hatteras' Dylan Waters, who scored 13 points along with eight steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Columbia to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
