Baseball Game Preview: Ferguson Falcons vs. Somerset Academy Panthers

The Ferguson Falcons will take on the Somerset Academy Panthers in a tournament on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ferguson has three straight wins, Somerset Academy has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Ferguson beats Somerset Academy with seven runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Ferguson came out on top against Calvary Christian Academy by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday.

Alejandro Suarez looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Erick Leyva, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zachary Alfonso, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Ferguson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calvary Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .355.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Tuesday. Somerset Academy fell just short of Dwyer by a score of 2-1.

Somerset Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Fari?as, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Ferguson's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Somerset Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Ferguson skirted past Somerset Academy 4-3 in their previous matchup back in February of 2018. Will Ferguson repeat their success, or does Somerset Academy has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
