Basketball Recap: Wooster Generals vs. Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets
The Wooster Generals were the 58-49 winner over the Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Wooster took a 53-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellowjackets. That's two games in a row now that Wooster has lost by exactly four points.
Wooster's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tre Edwards, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Ethan Shetler, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Wooster smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Wooster has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Mt. Vernon, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Wooster will face off against the Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Strongsville has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 664 points over their last nine matchups. As for Mt. Vernon, they will head out on the road to face off against the Arrows at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Ohio (Ashland is ranked 398th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 389th).
