Softball Recap: Van Wert Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Celina, Van Wert was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Miller City Wildcats. With that victory, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Emma West spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on ten hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Layla Sudduth was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three doubles, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Halley Dunlap was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Van Wert was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Van Wert back to even at 6-6. As for Miller City, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.

Van Wert wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, an 8-1 defeat against Wapakoneta on the 28th. As for Miller City, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-0 victory against Ottoville on the 28th.
