Preview: Rock Canyon Jaguars vs. Douglas County Huskies

Rock Canyon is on a 13-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Douglas County is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Rock Canyon Jaguars will take on the Douglas County Huskies at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Rock Canyon's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven contests.

Rock Canyon posted their closest win yet this season on Friday. They had just enough and edged Highlands Ranch out 67-64. Given Rock Canyon's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Highlands Ranch is ranked 72nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rock Canyon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Macoy Terry, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Kliewer, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.

Even though Douglas County has not done well against Denver East recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Douglas County came out on top against Denver East by a score of 76-68. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Douglas County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Logan Strawn out in front who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Strawn has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Anthony Nettles, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds.

Rock Canyon's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Douglas County, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.

Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Rock Canyon have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 7.1 threes per game. It's a different story for Douglas County, though, as they've been averaging only 5.7 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Everything went Rock Canyon's way against Douglas County in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as Rock Canyon made off with a 91-70 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Douglas County's Xander Baldessari, who scored 19 points. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Rock Canyon to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
