Preview: James Monroe Mavericks vs. Sherman Tide
The James Monroe Mavericks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Sherman Tide at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. James Monroe will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
Even though Bluefield scored an imposing 32 points on Friday, James Monroe still came out on top. James Monroe sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 35-32 victory over Bluefield.
Meanwhile, Sherman can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past Ritchie County 45-14 at home. With Sherman ahead 31-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Sherman found their leader in underclassman Trey Lester, who rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also picked up 70 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Eli Pauley, who threw for 138 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 passes.
Their wins bumped James Monroe to 8-1 and Sherman to 6-4.
Everything came up roses for James Monroe against Sherman when the teams last played back in August of 2022 as the squad secured a 41-6 victory. Does James Monroe have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sherman turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
