Baseball Recap: Mescalero Apache Takes a Loss

Mescalero Apache had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 3-10 to make it four. They lost 17-2 to the Mesilla Valley Christian School SonBlazers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the SonBlazers this season, with their most recent loss being a 18-0 defeat on Saturday.

As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games.

For Mesilla Valley Christian School's part, Weston Marr was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Marr a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Henry Castillo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Mescalero Apache will head out to square off against Capitan at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.94 runs per game on average), something the Chiefs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Mesilla Valley Christian School, they will welcome Lordsburg at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The SonBlazers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mavericks have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
