Softball Game Preview: Fishers Tigers vs. Mt. Vernon Marauders

The Fishers Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Mt. Vernon Marauders at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Fishers' offense. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (6-0), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They have struggled against the Royals recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Kate Murray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Fishers saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kendall Jordan, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Adrianne Cook also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon came up short against Lapel on Tuesday, falling 11-1.

Fishers' defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Mt. Vernon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Fishers hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .346. It's a different story for Mt. Vernon, though, as they've only averaged .231. Will they be able to contain Fishers' hitters?

Fishers skirted past Mt. Vernon 6-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
