Baseball Game Preview: Chatham Charter Knights vs. North Stokes Vikings

The Chatham Charter Knights will face off against the North Stokes Vikings at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Chatham Charter 3.8, North Stokes 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Last Thursday, Chatham Charter earned a 5-2 victory over Cornerstone Charter.

Luke Johnson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Chatham Charter's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

Johnson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyner Williams, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base. Another was M. (Jax) Young, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for North Stokes, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Alleghany get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Friday. Considering the Vikings have won six matches by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Chatham Charter's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for North Stokes, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.

Chatham Charter came up short against North Stokes in their previous matchup back in May of 2019, falling 9-5. Can Chatham Charter avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
