Recap: Crowley County Chargers vs. Las Animas Trojans

The Crowley County Chargers fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Las Animas Trojans on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 36-34. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Crowley County has suffered yet this season.

Alexis Rusher was Crowley County's leading scorer, having posted 13 points. Ashlyn Berg held things down on the boards with nine rebounds.

Las Animas' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Netherton, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Netherton hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. Emma Russell was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.

Crowley County's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-3. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.0 points per game. As for Las Animas, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crowley County will challenge Hoehne at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hoehne is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.7 points per game. As for Las Animas, they will head out on the road to take on Holly at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Holly focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 59 last Thursday.
