The Crivitz Wolverines will face off against the Southern Door Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Crivitz proved they can win big on Monday (they won by eight) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Lena 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolverines have posted since April 4th.
Meanwhile, Southern Door can bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. Everything went their way against Sturgeon Bay as they made off with a 13-2 win. The Eagles' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Drew Daoust spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits. He is becoming a predictor of Southern Door's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyler Neinas, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Southern Door: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-7 otherwise. Collin Everard was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run.
Southern Door was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Crivitz pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Southern Door, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
