Recap: Westside Seminoles vs. West Laurens Raiders

Even though the West Laurens Raiders scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, the Westside Seminoles still came out on top. Westside took their contest against West Laurens 67-57. Given Westside's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while West Laurens is ranked 462nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chauncey Williams led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Williams is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cam Rembert, who scored 17 points.

West Laurens' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dorian Watkins, who scored 15 points along with four steals. Watkins continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Rj Whipple was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with two steals.

Westside is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for West Laurens, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

Westside will head out on the road to face off against Spalding at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Spalding is on a six-game streak of home wins, Westside a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. West Laurens will take on East Laurens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in East Laurens' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four games.
