Basketball Game Preview: New Rochelle Huguenots vs. Mount Vernon Knights

The New Rochelle Huguenots will take on the Mount Vernon Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (New Rochelle has three straight victories, Mount Vernon has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

New Rochelle is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 70-63 win over Mamaroneck on Tuesday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Huguenots' disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while the Tigers are ranked 108th).

Meanwhile, Mount Vernon ended up a good deal behind John Jay on Wednesday and lost 57-39. The Knights were down 47-21 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

New Rochelle will have to contain Tianna Patten as she made an impact in Mount Vernon's last game. She posted 15 points. That was a full 38.5% of Mount Vernon's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

New Rochelle is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.2 points per game. As for Mount Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

New Rochelle didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Mount Vernon when the teams last played on January 15th, but they still walked away with a 53-48 win.
