After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Crowley County, Walsenburg was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They skirted past the Aguilar Wildcats 54-51. The Panthers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Walsenburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Landon Eccher led the charge by dropping a double-double with 24 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds gave Eccher a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adrian Vallejos, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards.

Walsenburg was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Aguilar's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Gonzales, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 35.3% of Aguilar's points, marking the fourth time in a row Gonzales has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxon Salapich, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 18 boards.

Walsenburg's record now sits at 3-16. As for Aguilar, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Walsenburg will host Sierra at 4:30 p.m. on February 21st. As for Aguilar, they will be playing at home against Hanover at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hanover is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.
