Basketball Recap: Samson Takes a Loss

Samson lost against Cottonwood on January 9th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Samson Tigers were outmatched by the Cottonwood Bears and fell 70-40. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 428th, while the Bears are ranked 173rd).

Samson's loss came despite strong showings from Ben McKenzie and Brodi Mock. McKenzie dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Mock posted nine points. McKenzie has been hot, having posted ten or more boards the last five times he's played.

Even though they lost, Samson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 34 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Samson's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Cottonwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

Samson has already played their next game, a 70-25 loss against Providence Christian on the 28th. Cottonwood has also already played their next match (against Rehobeth), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
