Softball Recap: Gray's Creek Picks Up Seventh Straight Win at Home

Gray's Creek put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They blew past the Seventy-First Falcons 18-0. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Lizzie Johnson made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, August Kebort was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Amariya Green was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Gray's Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Gray's Creek pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Seventy-First, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gray's Creek will take on Pinecrest at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Seventy-First, they will venture away from home to face off against Cape Fear at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
