Basketball Recap: Holmes County Central's Loss Ends 13-Game Winning Streak at Home

It was a proper cat-fight when Holmes County Central faced off against Canton on Tuesday. The Holmes County Central Jaguars took a 45-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Canton Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Tigers are ranked 27th).

Holmes County Central lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jakarra Bankhead, who posted four points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ratasia Greer, who had ten points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Canton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Shamira Morton, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 20 rebounds. Morton has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 14 times she's played. Journee Brown was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Holmes County Central's defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-6. As for Canton, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Holmes County Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 73-67 win against Forest Hill on the 19th. As for Canton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-20 victory against Gentry on the 20th.
