Softball Recap: Orem Gets the Win

Orem proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 13) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Stansbury Stallions, sneaking past 3-2. That's more bragging rights for the Tigers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ashton Belnap made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 11 games.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Camber Hancock, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Avery Louise Allen also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

The victory got Orem back to even at 6-6. As for Stansbury, they moved to 4-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coming up, Orem will head out on the road to take on Salem Hills at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Stansbury, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Weber at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
