Basketball Game Preview: Butler County Bears vs. Grayson County Cougars

The Butler County Bears will venture away from home to square off against the Grayson County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Butler County fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Todd County Central on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rebels by a score of 71-69. The loss continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Grayson County was fully in charge on Tuesday, breezing past Hart County 61-27. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Raiders are ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Grayson County's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-4-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.7 points per game. As for Butler County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Butler County came up short against Grayson County in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 46-35. Can Butler County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
