Baseball Recap: Avon Comes Up Short

Avon lost against Olmsted Falls back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Eagles took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Luke Holtzman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, Avon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Cain, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Robby Sykora also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Avon now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Olmsted Falls, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3-1.

While Avon had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
