Softball Preview: Crab Orchard Trojans vs. Galatia/Thompsonville Bearcats
The Crab Orchard Trojans will head out to square off against the Galatia/Thompsonville Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Crab Orchard is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Crab Orchard made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Crab Orchard blew past Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton 11-1 on Monday. Considering the Trojans have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Adri Ortega spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Drew Besheres was excellent, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Addlyn Miller, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, Galatia/Thompsonville was able to grind out a solid victory over Century on Saturday, taking the game 14-9.
Crab Orchard's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Galatia/Thompsonville, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Everything went Crab Orchard's way against Galatia/Thompsonville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Crab Orchard made off with a 13-0 victory.
