Maxwell triumphant thanks to a strong effort from Kristyn Cheek

Recap: Maxwell Wildcats vs. Sutherland Sailors

The Maxwell Wildcats had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Sutherland by a score of 49-41 on Tuesday. For Maxwell, this counts as revenge for the 36-35 defeat Sutherland walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.

Kristyn Cheek had a dynamite game for Maxwell, scoring 27 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cheek has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jenna Miller, who scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals.

Sutherland's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Story Rasby, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Rasby is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Glory Naughtin, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and six steals.

Maxwell's win bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Sutherland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-14.

Maxwell will head out on the road to face off against Medicine Valley at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Medicine Valley is ranked 183rd, while Maxwell is ranked 208th). As for Sutherland, they will head out on the road to square off against Paxton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Paxton is coming into the game with three straight defeats at home, meaning Sutherland will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
