The Marianapolis Prep Golden Knights will venture away from home to challenge Dexter Southfield at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
On Wednesday, Marianapolis Prep came up short against Varsity Opponent and fell 8-4. The Golden Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Owen Richardson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastien Troyse, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dexter Southfield). They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Cushing Academy on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Ian McWhinnie tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Gabe Malaret was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Grady Tempesta also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Dexter Southfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Dexter Southfield's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Marianapolis Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Marianapolis Prep's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's matchup. The Golden Knights have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Dexter Southfield, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Marianapolis Prep continue to outrun the ball?
