Basketball Recap: Apex Comes Up Short

Apex was the 45-42 winner over Southern Alamance when they last played one another back in December of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The Apex Cougars fell 32-23 to the Southern Alamance Patriots on Monday.

Sarah Kathryn Maness was the offensive standout of the game as she dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Southern Alamance's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlie Jacobs, who posted six points.

Apex has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for Southern Alamance, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apex will venture away from home to face off against Knightdale at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Knightdale is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season. As for Southern Alamance, they will head out on the road to square off against Cedar Ridge at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Southern Alamance has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
