Basketball Recap: Sterling's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Sterling can finally bid farewell to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 56-54 win over the East Butler Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Jets have posted since January 25th.

East Butler lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Margret Pekarek, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. Pekarek is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lillie Kriz, who went 5 of 11 en route to 13 points along with six boards and five steals.

Sterling's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for East Butler, they dropped their record down to 2-3 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sterling and Pawnee City will round out the year against one another at on December 30th. As for East Butler, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the East Butler Tigers duke it out with the Cedar Bluffs Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Cedar Bluffs' defense has only allowed 28.5 points per game this season, so East Butler's offense will have their work cut out for them.
