Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Cape Fear couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They were beaten by the Garner Trojans 63-26 on Friday. The Colts' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Cape Fear had strong showings from Dy'Lan Parker, who picked up 123 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Geronimo Sanchez, who threw for 301 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt. Parker showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 52 yards. A healthy portion of Sanchez's aerial production (90 yards to be exact) also went to Chosen Wynn.
Garner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Amir Wallace led the charge by rushing for 232 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries. Those 232 rushing yards gave Wallace a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christian Ormandy, who threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes.
Cape Fear's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Garner, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-3.
