Basketball Recap: Challenger Comes Up Short

Challenger extended their losing streak to nine on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-10. They came up short against the Lake Lure Classical Academy Raptors, falling 83-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (57), the Firebirds still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Challenger lost, don't look at Braelon Roe. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-16 to rack up 20 points in addition to six boards and three steals. The matchup was Roe's fifth in a row with at least 18 points. Jacob Fox was another key player, putting up 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

As for Lake Lure Classical Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-10. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lake Lure Classical Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elijah Hill- Moore, who shot 67% from the field en route to 20 points and seven boards. Those 20 points gave Hill- Moore a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nixon VIVOLO, who went 8-for-12 on his way to 21 points and three steals.

Coming up, Challenger will venture away from home to challenge Nebo Crossing Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lake Lure Classical Academy, they will welcome Reynolds Mountain Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
