Softball Recap: Upper Scioto Valley Takes a Loss

Upper Scioto Valley had lost four straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 4-12 to make it five. They fell just short of the Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets by a score of 7-6. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Fighting Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Cory-Rawson, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-14. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games.

For Cory-Rawson's part, Katelyn Duffman spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up 12 Ks. Duffman has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Addyson Duffman, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Morgan McVetta, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Looking ahead, Upper Scioto Valley will square off against Waynesfield-Goshen at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season. As for Cory-Rawson, they will take on Ottoville in a tournament on Wednesday.
