Baseball Recap: Dexter Comes Up Short

Dexter extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-8. They lost 13-2 to the New Mexico Military Institute Colts. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-2 on Thursday.

Dexter saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Easton Mireles, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for New Mexico Military Institute, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.5 runs over those games.

On New Mexico Military Institute's side, Juan-Carlos Hurtado was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Hurtado was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brock Spear was excellent, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicolas Barcelo, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs.

Coming up, Dexter will square off against Bosque at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Demons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for New Mexico Military Institute, they will face off against East Mountain at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Colts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Timberwolves have averaged an impressive 12.6 runs per game this season.
