Basketball Recap: Overton Sets Scoring Season-High Against Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood]

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Overton). They blew past Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] 62-36 on Tuesday. The victory was familiar territory for the Eagles who have now won six matchups in a row.

Leading Overton to victory were Daisy Ryan and Kyla Elfgren. Ryan dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Elfgren went 5 for 9 en route to 15 points and five steals. Ryan's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Gracen Hughes was another key player, putting up eight points and five steals.

Overton was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Shelby Jurjens posted six points and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for Jurjens. Noelle Rand also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Overton is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood], they dropped their record down to 2-12 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Overton will square off against Ansley/Litchfield at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood], they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Medicine Valley at 4:00 p.m. on February 4th.
